This is a 1933 Olds Standard trumpet in very good condition. It has an "LM" (Large -medium) bore with the optional hand hammered bell. These options can be seen in the 1933 catalog page shown above.
While the Military model, which was introduced about the same time as this trumpet was made, came with the hand hammered bell, for the Standard model, it was a $15 upgrade.
As with Olds trumpets if this era, this trumpet has the signature Mother of Pearl pull knobs on the slides and the trombone waterkey on the tuning slide and third valve slide, but there is no push rod or method to extend the third slide. As noted in an earlier Olds catalog, "This instrument is built with a perfect scale, thus eliminating the necessity of equipping it with the bothersome extra slide for favoring the low C sharp"
This trumpet is being sold for the current owner, who has owned it for several decades. It was likely restored prior to his ownership and he had the valves aligned by Dr. Valve many years ago. The engraving is sharp and clear and only the "LM" stamp below the serial number is faint. In our experience, this bore mark was never as deep as other engraving, so it is not uncommon to see this worn down.
The plating on the valve pistons is good and the horn has very good compression.
All parts are original to the trumpet with matching serial numbers. When acquired many years ago in a tattered case that was not preserved, a photo of the 7th Infantry Drum and Bugle Corps, Vancouver Barracks Washington December 1937 was rolled up in the case. There was not a name or other information, but the obvious inference is that this trumpet belonged to a member of that band. The photo has been restored and framed and will be provided to the new owner.
