1935  New York  Bach Stradivarius 7-48 MS bore Bb trumpet

This is an early NY Bach trumpet in very good original condition.  This is a 4 digit serial number Bach when Vincent Bach was still very much in his experimenting era.

As with many of these early Bach instruments, the shop card is very instructional.  In this case, the card confirms the 7 bell and .448 bore (as noted on the bell with the 7-48 stamp).  The card also confirms that the 5 leadpipe is original.  What is most interesting is that the card indicates that there must have been a sale and a return and then the trumpet was sold to Hans Bach, Vincent's younger brother, who owned a music store in New York at this time.  The original case has both  Vincent Bach and Hans Bach medallions.  The original case is in rough shape, but it confirms this provenance. 

The shop card also indicates that the trumpet came with a "1" finish, which was polished raw brass.  When we acquired it, it had very worn lacquer, so we had it stripped and polished to its original condition.  As expected of an instrument of this vintage, there is some pitting of the brass, but all parts are original and it has no patches or signs of major wear.

The valves have certainly been replated in the past and compression is very good. 

All parts appear to be original with matching serial numbers on the spring barrels, top caps, and valve stems.  

Comes with the original case with a good interior, but a well worn exterior.  

We've listed this as a 1935 model based on the completion date of 4/22/35, but as noted on the shop card, the initial customer in October 1935 was Carl Fischer (and an unintelligible individual) but this is marked out and on June 2, 1936, the customer was Hans J. Bach, Vincent Bach's younger brother, who assisted Vincent in his business and also operated his own music store.
