1941 Olds Standard cornet
SOLD
This is a 1941 Olds Standard cornet. This is the original Olds cornet which was introduced as "The Olds" and then when additional models were added to the lineup, Standard was added to this model.
More information about this model can be found in the 1941 Olds Catalog posted below.
This early post-war model has Tempered Bell engraved on the bell, as noted in the catalog, it has a slightly larger bell than the previous versions. While the general configuration is similar, this cornet has a much wider wrap that the original Olds and the pistons are almost an inch longer, which is consistent the the Olds cornets going forward. Elden Benge had begun stamping his Benge trumpets with "Resno Tempered" a few years earlier, so perhaps this was an influence.
This cornet is in very good restored condition. It is unknown who did the restoration and how long ago, but there are only minor areas of wear and the engraving is sharp suggesting a high level of care in the restoration process. The valves appear to have been replated with the restoration and valve compression and action are excellent. All parts are original to the horn with matching serial numbers.
Comes with a non-original case in good condition which works well with this cornet.
This cornet has the original receiver which requires a larger shank mouthpiece or one of the other options that are described here.
