1941 Olds Special Bb trumpet

This is a 1941 Olds Special Bb trumpet in very good original condition. It has much of what appears to be original lacquer.  It was made during the first few years of production of the Special model.  All parts appear to original to the horn, including the tuning slide and third slide stop rods, which are frequently missing from early Olds trumpets.  

The valve compression is good and all slides are free and smooth.  Has matching serial numbers on top caps, valve stems and piston spring barrels.

 Engraving is sharp and clear.  While there is some lacquer loss throughout the instrument, there is no sign of red rot or any major past trauma.  There is faint evidence of minor dent work on the bell flare near the rim.   

This horn was recently acquired from the son of the original owner.  It has not been played in many years, but after a gentle cleaning and new felts and springs, it is ready to be used again.   It comes with the original case showing some wear (and some vintage odor) as well as the original Olds 3 mouthpiece and lyre, both with OLDS engraved in the art deco style of the day.  The trumpet will be shipped well packed but not inside the case so as to not again become as smelly as the case.  The case will require some airing out and attention to be put back in service.

This is a great player and also a wonderful collector horn being made at the height of Olds production just before WWII.  The pre-war Olds instruments are highly sought by both players and collectors and this one is deserving of that reputation.
