1941 Olds Super Recording cornet
This is a 1941 Olds Super Recording cornet. This is the original version of the Super Recording. The Super Recording represents the pinnacle of Olds craftsmanship. The Super Recording was known at the time as the "Super Olds Recording Model." Prior to this model, the Super had been the model at the top of the Olds lineup. Thus, this new model built on the reputation of the Super. The Super Recording cornet is much rarer than the trumpet counterpart.
More information about this rare Super Recording model can be found in the 1941 Olds Catalog posted below.
This early post-war model does not have any engraving on the bell flare. The tone ring is engraved "Super Olds Recording Model"
This cornet is in very good original condition. There is lacquer missing in a few places on the leadpipe and some of the tubing, but more than 90% of the original lacquer remains. There is a small "flat spot" on the leadpipe near the third valve and two other small dents, one on the bell crook and the other on one of the crooks. All parts are original to the horn with matching serial numbers.
This cornet is clean inside and out. All slides are smooth. Valve action and compression is very good. Some slight leakage is detected, but nothing that would rise to the level of interfering with playing this horn.
Engraving is sharp and clear. Comes with a the original case in very good condition with working latches, the original handle and the original Olds badge.
This cornet has the original receiver which requires a larger shank mouthpiece or one of the other options that are described here. A Mount Vernon Bach 7C mouthpiece with the correct "O" shank is included.
We are selling this cornet for a collector who acquired this from the family of the original owner. This cornet was obviously well cared for during its 83 year life.
