1943 Henri Selmer Paris Grand Prix Bb trumpet
This is a Selmer Grand Prix trumpet that dates to 1943 based on the serial number. This trumpet would have been made in occupied France. Nothing specific is known about these war time instruments, but likely they were made with parts that were on hand prior to the start of the war.
This trumpet has been restored in the past and is in very good cosmetic condition. The engraving is still sharp, indicating quality restoration with minimal buffing. There is some wear to the lacquer, but it still has a very good overall appearance. The valves may have been replated when the restoration was done. The compression is very good with smooth action.
The leadpipe receiver is stamped as follows:
The “Grand Prix” trumpets made by Henri Selmer were the venerable top-of-the-line trumpets that they offered at the time. The model 23 has a. 458” “medium large bore” and was the artist model as evidenced by the “Qualité Artistique” (Artist Quality) located at the top of the floral bell engraving.
This trumpet has a nickel silver leadpipe, nickel silver slide tubes and a 1st slide trigger: all hallmarks of Selmer trumpets.
This trumpet is being sold on consignment and comes with a non-original compact case that fits the trumpet well. There are also 4 mouthpieces included and a lyre. The mouthpieces are two 7C mouthpieces, a Conn 4 and an unmarked mouthpiece.
The previous owner of this trumpet was a member of the Ohio State Marching band and was a music teacher after graduation as well as a player in several big bands in the early 1950’s. Likely this was the trumpet used in those endeavors.
