1946 Olds Super Recording Cornet SN 16966

1946 Olds Super Recording cornet

  SOLD

This is a 1946 Olds Super Recording cornet.  This is an early post war version of the  Super Recording. The Super Recording represents the pinnacle of Olds craftsmanship. The Super Recording was known at the time as the "Super Olds Recording Model."  Prior to this model, the Super had been the model at the top of the Olds lineup. Thus, this new model built on the reputation of the Super.  The Super Recording cornet is much rarer than the trumpet counterpart.

More information about this rare  Super Recording model can be found in the 1941 Olds Catalog posted below.

This early post-war model has RECORDING engraved running down the bell flare and then the same tone ring engraving as the Super model.  Several photos are shown of this engraving to document that it is in very good condition.  The lighting and curve of the bell flare make some letters appear faint in some photos, but if you study all the photos you will see that the full bell engraving is very good.

This horn is being sold for a collector who is liquidating her collection.  It was purchased many years ago in restored condition and played very sparingly.  The lacquer is excellent and engraving is sharp indicating a careful restoration.  It is unknown if work was done on the valves but the compression is very good.  There appears to have been some sort of repair on the first valve piston as can be seen in the close up photo, but this does not hamper the performance.  All parts are original with matching serial numbers.

This cornet is clean inside and out. All slides are smooth. Valve action and compression is very good.    Engraving is sharp and clear.   Comes with the original case showing some wear but still fully functional.

This cornet has the original receiver which requires a larger shank mouthpiece or one of the other options that are described here.
