This a 1946 Olds Standard Bb trumpet in good original condition. It retains much of its original lacquer. There is some wear to the lacquer and faint evidence of removal of a dent in the bell flare, but overall it is a very nice instrument. The "Olds" was the original trumpet made by Olds and as other models were added during the 1930's, this original model was relabeled as the "Olds Standard".
The Special model was introduced just before WWII and this is when "The Olds" became "The Olds Standard". The 1941 catalog image matches this trumpet. The Standard was considered a professional level instrument, as were all Olds trumpets until the Ambassador was introduced in 1948.
The Olds trumpets made just after WWII are highly sought after as excellent players and this one is a great example of the quality being produced by Olds at that time.
The valve plating on this trumpet appears to be original . The valve compression and action is very good, an indication that although it has some cosmetic wear, it may not have been played extensively.
Has matching serial numbers on top caps, valve stems and piston spring barrels. Last two digits of the serial number are stamped on the slide tubes.
All slides are smooth. Engraving is sharp and clear.
