This is a 1948 Olds Super Recording trumpet.  This is the last  version of the  Super Recording made before the model was discontinued. The Super Recording represents the pinnacle of Olds craftsmanship. The Super Recording was labeled only as the "Recording Trumpet" in the last Olds catalog showing the model, which had previously been named the "Super Olds Recording Model."  Prior to this model, the Super had been the model at the top of the Olds lineup. Thus, this new model built on the reputation of the Super.

 The last version of the model featured two changes from previous models:   

1. a traditional style leadpipe of nickel-silver and,  
2. elaborate bell engraving with "Super" and "Recording" engraved in a crossing pattern.   

Several photos are shown of this engraving to document that it is in very good condition.  The lighting and curve of the bell flare make some letters appear faint in some photos, but if you study all the photos you will see that the full bell engraving is in very good condition.

This horn is being sold to liquidate a collection.  It was purchased many years ago in restored condition and played very sparingly.  The lacquer is excellent and engraving is sharp indicating a careful restoration.  The valves appear to have been replated in the past and the compression is very good.  The only modification to this trumpet is the addition of a first valve slide trigger, which functions well.  The original pearl nib which was removed to install the trigger has been retained with the trumpet and will be provided.   All parts are original with matching serial numbers.

 This trumpet  is clean inside and out. All slides are smooth. Valve action and compression is very good.    Engraving is sharp and clear.   Does not come with a case or mouthpiece.
