1948 Olds Super Recording trumpet
SOLD
We wrote a general description of the Super Recording model a few years back and it is often copied by others, but this is our original description, so if it sounds familiar, it is because others have flattered us by copying it!
The Super Recording represents the pinnacle of Olds craftsmanship and was the horn that attracted legendary trumpet virtuoso Rafael Mendez to become an Olds artist and later to lend his name to the Mendez model. The Super Recording was actually known at the time as the "Recording model Super trumpet." Prior to its introduction in Olds lineup, the Super was the top model. Thus the new model built on the reputation of the Super. The Super Recording had three different design phases during its approximately 10 year production run. This represents the final of the three phases.
In addition to the tone ring, this version has "SUPER" and "RECORDING" engraved in a cross style, but the "R" at the end of "SUPER", being the "R in the middle of "RECORDING".
This Super Recording was likely relacquered many years ago. The lacquer has darkened somewhat, but not what we'd expect if this was original lacquer. The work was well done and more than 90% of the lacquer remains, with a few scratches and areas of wear, but no large bare patches. The engraving is still sharp and clear with no signs of extensive buffing. There is a small area of lacquer loss on the inside of the bell flare where a dent was removed near the rim. It is so close to the rim that it is hard to detect and even harder to photograph.
Although not noted in the Olds literature, some Super Recordings, like this one have gold brass bells. The copper content is not as high as the later "Re-o-loy " of the Recording model which succeeded this model, but it is definitely a higher copper content than the yellow brass for the other brass parts of this trumpet.
This trumpet is in excellent playing condition. Valve compression is very good.
Comes with the original guarantee and inspection card, but no case.
