This is a New York Bach Stradivarius with a 25 bell and a large bore (.462) that was made in early 1950.
This horn was recently acquired from the 2nd owner who had owned it since the early 1960's. The trumpet had been relacquered prior to his ownership and once he received it, it was played for a couple of years and generally stored for the past 55 years.
When we received it, the lacquer was vey spotty and there was extensive red rot in the leadpipe and tuning slide crook. We sent the horn to Charlie Melk to have the lacquer stripped and replacement parts installed to address the red rot. Charlie uses parts that are as close as you can get to the original Bach parts from this era. The horn now looks great and plays very well. The nickel plated valves appear to be original and valve compression and action is very good.
Aside from the parts mentioned above, the horn appears to have original parts, including matching serial numbers on the valve spring barrels, top caps and valve stems. Even the brass valve guides are numbered 1, 2 and 3. Intonation is good and this horn has a great sound as you would expect of a somewhat rare large bore NY Bach.
