This is a New York Bach Stradivarius with a 37 bell made in 1952. It has a Medium Bore.
This horn has been restored with gold plating in the past. Nothing is known of this history of the restoration, but the work is very well done. There are some imperfections under the plating, which indicates that there was some minor wear to the surface of the horn before the restoration, but that minimal buffing was done.
The gold plating is showing a modest amount of wear but overall this horn has a stunning appearance.
The valves are original monel pistons with excellent compression and smooth action. It is unknown if they were replated/refitted when the gold plating work was done, but they are in excellent condition. The shop card confirms the bell and bore size (which is stamped on the horn), but also reveals that it has a 7 leadpipe, which is not marked. In discussing the shop card with a representative from Conn-Selmer they confirmed that this horn was one of a batch of similar configured horns which have generally been noted as very good playing horns and we concur with this opinion.
The horn appears to have all original parts, with two exceptions. The heavy bottom caps and the third slide stop rod. There are matching serial numbers on the valve spring barrels, top caps and valve stems. Even the brass valve guides are numbered 1, 2 and 3. Intonation is good and this horn has a very sweet sound as you would expect of a medium bore NY Bach.
Comes with a later model Bach hard case in very good condition.
