This is a 1954 Los Angeles Olds Recording trumpet that is in original condition with all original parts. It has most (90%+) of the the original lacquer remaining. The catalog page below is from circa 1952, the last known catalog before the move to Fullerton. This trumpet was likely made in the last few months that Olds operated exclusively in Los Angeles. This trumpet was recently acquired from the family of the original owner. It has had two players over the years; a father and his son. It arrived to us with no dents, damage, or stuck slides and has been maintained in playing condition over the years. But other than a small amount of lacquer wear, it hardly looks used.
The new Recording model featured the same balanced configuration as the prior Super Recording as well as the offset middle valve, but differed with the new "Re-O-loy" (Olds name for higher copper content red brass) bell and leadpipe, as well as a spring loaded third slide trigger.
Recording models have distinctive bell engraving which further set them apart from other Olds models of this era.
This trumpet is clean inside and out. All slides are smooth. No dents, solder repair or signs of past repair. Just a few areas of missing and faded lacquer. All indications are that this trumpet still wears its original lacquer and it has not been refinished in the past.
Engraving is sharp and clear. There are matching serial numbers on the valve spring barrels.
The valve plating on this trumpet appears to be original. The valve compression and action is excellent.
This trumpet comes with the original Lifton case in very good condition . There is a bit of musty vintage trumpet smell in the case, so some airing out may be in order before regular use of the case.
Also included are the original Olds 3 mouthpiece and Olds lyre.
