This is a 1959 Olds Recording cornet in good original condition. The lacquer is pretty much gone but there are no signs of any dents, damage or abuse.
The Recording model has the offset middle valve and the Rey-O-loy bell and leadpipe, more commonly known as "gold brass" for the higher copper content; the spring loaded third valve trigger; and the distinctive custom engraving.
This is a Fullerton made horn when Olds was at the top of their game. Unlike horns made a few years earlier, it takes a regular shank cornet mouthpiece.
It has the same spring loaded 3rd slide trigger as found on Recording trumpets. Interesting that the trigger on this vintage of Recording cornet actually has the trigger connected to the tuning slide, which is located next to the third valve slide. A modified connecting rod has been added to this cornet so that the trigger operates the third valve slide (and not the tuning slide), but the original connecting bar and screw are included so it can be easily converted back to the original configuration.
This cornet clean inside and out. All slides are smooth.
