1964 Mount Vernon Bach Stradivarius Bb trumpet
SOLD
This is a 1964 Bach Stradivarius Bb trumpet in very good original condition. It is a medium large bore trumpet with a 37 bell and a 25 leadpipe. All parts appear to be original to the horn.
This trumpet was recently acquired from the family of the original owner. The condition suggests that it was used for a few years when new and very sparingly since then.
The trumpet has some minimal wear to what appears to be original lacquer and there is no evidence of any dent or solder repair. There is a section of discolored lacquer on the top side of the bell just above the bell stamp. The monel valves have excellent compression. Valve spring barrels have matching serial numbers.
This horn is an excellent player and is representative of the fine horns that were produced in the Mount Vernon era. Being late in the Mount Vernon era, this trumpet does not have the shorter leadpipe that requires a longer pull of the tuning slide. This trumpet requires the 1/2 inch or so pull of the tuning slide to play in tune.
The original case was no longer with the trumpet, but we have paired this later model Mount Vernon with a case that is from the same era in very good original condition.
The shop card confirms that it is a 37 bell with a 25 leadpipe but also includes a notation that the trumpet came with a rotary quick change to A as well as a second extra "medium bore telescopic slide". The brace on the body of the trumpet adjacent to the tuning slide is much farther back than normal, but the Quick Change Rotary slide would explain this; however, when we received the trumpet, there was only one slide and it is not the Quick Change slide. The tuning slide is interesting in that the inside diameter measures as .464, while the other slides all measure .459. The tuning slide tubes are made with thinner wall tubing which allows the slide to fit the .459 bore, with with a later inside diameter.
The slide appears to be original to the trumpet, but we cannot explain why the shop card mentions a "medium bore telescopic slide"
