2002 Amrein AMR Meisterserie Large bore Bb trumpet

2002 Amrein AMR Meisterserie Large bore Bb trumpet

Musik Amrein was a well-regarded, independent brass instrument maker based in Lübeck, Germany. They built handmade trumpets under the "Amrein handmade" label and the  Meisterserie (Master Series) was one of their leading models.  Amrein closed their doors in 2016 due to the retirement of the owner.

The serial number stamped on the body is 026208 and 6208 is stamped on the valves, so we have speculated that the 02 is for 2002 which falls within the years of production of Amrein trumpets.

This particular trumpet is a large bore (.472) with a reversed leadpipe.  There is a small bit of wear to the silver on the valve casing, but other than that the plating is in excellent condition.  The monel valves are are fast and smooth with excellent compression.

The leadpipe includes an 8-digit identification code 04023321 which breaks  down into specific measurements and design traits:

  • 040 (First 3 Digits) — Venturi / Entry Diameter: Indicates the initial entry diameter (the venturi) of the leadpipe tapers, measured in millimeters (specifically 4.0mm).
  • 23 (Next 2 Digits) — Wall Thickness: Indicates the brass wall thickness used for the tube. In Amrein's coding, this denotes 0.23mm, making it an exceptionally responsive, lightweight custom leadpipe wall.
  • 3 (6th Digit) — Taper Rate / Rate of Conicity: Refers to the internal taper profile (mandrel type). A "3" taper provides a balanced, medium-wide resistance curve preferred for centered tone production.
  • 2 (7th Digit) — Material / Alloy: Designates the metal alloy. For Amrein components, a "2" represents Gold Brass (Goldmessing), which features a higher copper content to yield a warmer, broader sound profile with increased resistance to red rot.
  • 1 (Last Digit) — Reversed construction leadpipe.

These trumpets are highly sought after in Europe and rarely come up on the used market.
