This is a vintage Conn cornet with a serial number that dates it to 1883. It has be restored in the past with new silver plating and restored valves but as it came to us as a part of a collection to sell, we know nothing of who did the restoration. There are clearly a few bumps and bruises under the silver plating, but this is likely an indication of a restoration that involved minimal buffing of the brass to ensure that the instrument retains as much of its original character as possible. The engraving on the bell is beautiful.
We have labeled this as a Conservatory model, although the exact model is questionable. Based on the serial number, this cornet was made later in the year after a fire destroyed much of the Conn factory, so it was likely either made from parts that were not damaged or from new tooling as Conn began production again after the fire.
This cornet is an example of the outstanding craftsmanship of the early years of Conn and has been wonderfully preserved and restored.
