Josef Lidl - Brno Rotary Bb flugelhorn

This is a Rotary Bb flugelhorn made by Josef Lidl in Brno in the Czech Republic.  This instrument is being sold as a part of a large collection.  Lidl has been making horns for more than a century and this one is estimated to be about 20 years old.   There is a serial number stamped on the horn but no indication of a model number.

All slides are free and the rotary valves function well.  The lacquer is in good overall condition with some lacquer wear where the left hand holds the bell as shown in the photos.

It has a pleasing tone and is a fun horn to play.  It did not come to us with a mouthpiece, so one is not provided, but either is uses a larger shank flugel mouthpiece or a regular trumpet mouthpiece.  We used a regular trumpet mouthpiece to test it and that worked well.   Comes with a combination flugel/trumpet case but is compact enough to fit in the trumpet slot of many combination cases.
