This is a 1939 Olds Special Bb trumpet in good original condition. It has very little remaining lacquer and some signs of wear, particularly on the left slide of the valve casing. It was likely made during the first year of production of the Special model. There is only one older Special model recorded on the Olds Register.
When we received this trumpet, it was complete but had very leaky valves. We had Charlie Melk do a full replate/refit of all three valves. With newly replated valves and a precision valve alignment, it now plays very well. Has matching serial numbers on top caps, valve stems and piston spring barrels.
The only thing that appears to be non-original are the finger buttons. They are the correct style but they are not all three perfectly identical.
All slides are smooth. Engraving is sharp and clear.
This horn is a great player and also a wonderful collector horn being one of the first Olds Specials ever made.
