1940 OLDS STANDARD TRUMPET SN 7575 - full set of photos at bottom of page

                                                                SOLD

This is a 1940 Olds Standard Bb trumpet in very good original condition. It has most of the original lacquer which has darkened to a beautiful golden color.  There are obviously signs of wear,  but no dents, damage or signs of past repair.   The "Olds" was the original trumpet made by Olds and as other models were added during the 1930's, this original model was relabeled as the "Olds Standard".

It is interesting that this trumpet was estimated to be made in the time between two of the well known Olds catalogs with pages shown above from 1939 and 1941.  The Special model was introduced during this time frame and this is when "The Olds" became "The Olds Standard".   The 1939 catalog image does not show the 1st slide push rod, which this trumpet has.  The 1941 catalog image matches this trumpet. The Standard was considered a professional level instrument, as were all Olds trumpets prior to WWII.

This is from a short era when "Tempered Bell" is stamped on the bell.  There is a reference to the "tempered bell" in the 1939 catalog, but no real description of what change might have occurred in the bell construction.  It is a two-piece bell as were all Olds trumpets of this era.

The valve plating on this trumpet appears to be original and although nothing is known of its history, it does not appear to have been played extensively.  The valve compression and action is good.

Has matching serial numbers on top caps, valve stems and piston spring barrels.

All slides are smooth.  Engraving is sharp and clear.
