This is a 1937 Los Angeles Olds Super Bb trumpet in very good original condition. The lacquer is pretty much gone, but other than that and a replacement first valve slide saddle, this is a completely original horn. The bell flare appears to have a minimal brushed finish applied by a previous owner. Valve action and compression is excellent.
The early Olds literature indicated that the Super was made only in one bore size, but then several bore sizes were made... M, LM, and SYM. The SYM bore was .462 and although this trumpet does not have a bore designation, it is a .462 bore. Shortly after this horn was made, Olds standardized future Supers with a .460 ML Bore. These early Supers are considered some of the best trumpets Olds ever made. Compared to post-war horns, this is a lighter weight horn.
This trumpet clean inside and out. All slides are smooth. Engraving is sharp and clear. This is also from a very short period of production that had wider tone control bands. It has matching serial numbers on the valve spring barrels, valve stems and top caps.
This and other design elements of the Super trumpet are highlighted in our online article, Super Evolution
