1947 Chicago Benge Bb trumpet
SOLD
This is a Chicago Benge, made when Elden Benge was still making handmade trumpets, which were still very much in the model of the French Besson trumpet.
This trumpet is being sold on consignment for a noted brass repair technician who has provided this description of the condition and restoration of the trumpet:
"Completely rebuilt, except for the first slide assembly, all inner slides are new. It has a seamed leadpipe, ala Besson, but Joe Lill told me that it would be Benge manufacture. There are two long patches covering the leadpipe seam. It was not leaking when I made them, but it was showing rot on the inside, so they are prophylactic. Also a patch on the third valve knuckle made by Jim Becker, formerly of Osmun Music, when he refitted the valves. The receiver is my creation as a double-ring replacement for the original. It was replated by Anderson in silver, there are bubbles in the old plating underneath, and I left scratches and marks in the metal that I reshaped as the preservation of the horn was what I was interested in. It looks really good, but if someone's looking for the new horn look, this one isn't it.
A friend I loaned it to who is a well-known pro player wanted to buy it, as he said it is one of the best Benges he's ever played"
Medium large (.460) bore with original parts except as noted above. Each valve spring barrel is stamped with the serial number. While this Benge is like many of this era that has some flaws and some non-original parts, this the sharpest bell engraving of any Chicago Benge we've seen!
Does not come with a case.
