1948 Olds Super Recording cornet
The Super Recording represents the pinnacle of Olds craftsmanship. The Super Recording was known at the time as the "Super Olds Recording Model." Prior to this model, the Super had been the model at the top of the Olds lineup. Thus, this new model built on the reputation of the Super. The Super Recording cornet is much rarer than the trumpet counterpart.
More information about this rare Super Recording model can be found in the circa 1949 Olds Catalog posted below.
This is the last iteration of this model, made for the last two or three years of production before it was replaced by the Recording model in 1950. This has the nickel-silver Super tone control band on the bell as well as ornately engraved "crossed" SUPER RECORDING on the bell flare.
This cornet is clean inside and out. The remaining lacquer has been removed and it is now polished brass. All slides are smooth. Valve action and compression is quite good. There has been some dent work done on the leadpipe and one dent remains in the lower section.
This cornet has the original receiver which requires a larger shank mouthpiece or one of the other options that are described here.
The original Olds 3 large shank mouthpiece is included.
The case is also original and shows is quite worn and in need of restoration.
