1960 Mount Vernon Bach Stradivarius Bb trumpet
This is a 1960 Bach Stradivarius Bb trumpet that has a medium large bore with a 37G bell and a 25 leadpipe. The bell is gold brass, with a higher copper content than standard yellow brass.
This trumpet was recently acquired from the family of the original owner. The lacquer was quite worn, so we sent it to Charlie Melk to have evaluated. Charlie thought the valve compression was very good, but this is from the era of Mount Vernon production that has shorter leadpipes, so the tuning slide must be pulled out more than normal to play in tune with other instruments. This creates some problems for some players being able to center the pitch. Charlie recommended that the leadpipe be replaced with a standard longer 25 leadpipe. The lower tubing was also replaced due to the change in length. The original leadpipe has been retained and will be included with the trumpet in the event that the future owner would prefer to keep it in original condition.
The lacquer was stripped and the trumpet is now polished raw brass.
. The monel valves have excellent compression. Valve spring barrels have matching serial numbers.
This horn is an excellent player and is representative of the fine horns that were produced in the Mount Vernon era.
The original case is in good condition.
